Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Albright: Bush 'One of the Worst Presidencies' in History

Former Secretary of State pegs global warming and adjusting to globalization as goals for next president.

(Business & Media Institute) -
Nearly seven years out office, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright pulls no punches bashing the Bush administration’s handling of certain issues – calling it one of America’s “worst presidencies.”

Albright gave President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney very poor marks and listed goals for the next president to do better that include embracing a global view of climate change.

As much as it pains me to agree with the old harridan, I have to do so.

In the last 100 years, Carter and Wilson come to mind as worse Presidents. Nixon was pretty bad, but not even a close call in comparison to Dubyah. The Clinton Administration was a picnic by comparison. Only Hamilton, Lincoln, and F. Roosevelt have done anything even close to the kind of damage to the republic that the shrub has managed.

Hillary will not likely be an improvement, but the bar is so low, it would be difficult to get under it by much.

And Lincoln's face is on Mt. Rushmore and F.D.R. is considered one of our greatest presidents. Bush should feel pretty good if you're comparing him with those two. As Nixon once said, "History depends on who writes it."

I wasn't aware that having one's face plastered all over a mountain in South Dakota was an objective measure of greatness. Also, I'm not sure who, other than dedicated Democrats, Marxists, and Keynesians, all of whom are evil to the core, consider Roosevelt to be a great President. Lincoln began the destruction of the constitutional republic, caused the death of untold thousands for the purpose of inflating his bloated ego, not to mention making a complete sham of principle for the sake of politics. Roosevelt injected Marxism into our economy and our culture and allied us with one of the worst monsters in human history.

Maybe you need to check your predicates, Andy.

I said that because it does prove Nixon's point in that history depends on who writes it... With regard to Lincoln, your view of him is in the minority. Now, as you know, Ronald Reagan's political hero was F.D.R. He quoted him a lot in his speeches. Now, Reagan was against F.D.R.'s domestic policies, but he considered F.D.R. a great president due to his leadership during W.W.II. This is Reagan who believed this, not me.

And we all know, the majority is always right.

You would be surprised to find out how big that minority is, by the way. Most people who manage to realize that their public school upbringing was an exercise in propaganda, and who actually look into Lincoln's presidency tend to have a pretty low opinion of him.
