Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Ex-Republican Chafee considers voting for Obama in R.I. primary

(The Providence Journal) - Driven by his strong opposition to the war in Iraq, former Republican U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee may do something radical, at least for him: cast a vote in a Democratic primary.

Chafee, who lost his reelection race in 2006, left the GOP last summer and joined the ranks of Rhode Island’s unaffiliated voters, who can participate in either party’s primary on March 4.

In his deliberative manner, the former senator says he is considering a vote for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, who opposed the Iraq war from the beginning.

More evidence that Chafee is a dimwit. Obama would not only not end the war, he has indicated he believes it probably needs to be expanded. Democrats don't end wars, they start them and then leave them for Republicans to clean up. The only candidate running from either of the two national political subdivisions who is campaigning on ending the war is Ron Paul.

I also have to wonder about Rhode Island pubbies. Are they congenitally stupid? They keep re-electing this cretin who has never even pretended to act like a Republican. Then again, what am I saying? National Republicans are about to nominate McCain for President.

One of the bright spots for conservative Republicans like myself was the defeat of Lincoln Chafee in the '06 election. Good-bye and good riddance to Chafee.
