Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Grievance still under consideration; review of petition shows many signers not from town

(The Stokes News) - Residents in and around Walnut Cove as well as other parts of the county are eagerly awaiting news of the fate of former town police chief Barry Conaway.

Last Wednesday morning, Conaway and his attorney met with Town Manager Homer Dearmin and Town Attorney Kevin Berger for a grievance hearing, at which Conaway turned over information he hopes will convince Dearmin to reinstate him to chief, a position he held for 17 years before he was terminated in January.

At last Tuesday’s meeting of the Walnut Cove Board of Commissioners, Conaway addressed the commissioners and those in attendance, stating that he hoped he and Dearmin could work out their differences and build a strong working relationship.
