Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

McCain: Newspaper report on lobbyist is "not true"

Vicki Iseman

TOLEDO, Ohio (THE ASSOCIATED PRESS) - John McCain denied a romantic relationship with a female telecommunications lobbyist today and said a report by The New York Times suggesting favoritism for her clients is "not true."

"I'm very disappointed in the article. It's not true," McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, said as his wife, Cindy, stood alongside him during a news conference called to address the matter.

McCain described the woman in question, lobbyist Vicki Iseman, as a friend.

I have to say Ms. Iseman is a pretty woman. I've heard some say she looks like McCain's wife, Cindy.

McCain ditched his first wife, who was confined to a wheelchair at the time, for his current wife. Somehow I don't think marital fidelity (or any other kind of fidelity, for that matter) is one of McCain's traits.

As I keep saying, ethically, this guy makes Slick Willy look like a school boy. The media's best bet is to go light on the guy and hope he gets elected. They should then have a continuous feed of scandal and muck to report on.
