Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

McCain piles on victories; Clinton, Obama split wins

Biggest prize of California goes to Clinton; Huckabee takes Southern states

WASHINGTON (AP) -
Sen. John McCain of Arizona seized command of the race for the Republican presidential nomination last night, winning delegate-rich primaries in all regions of the country. Democratic rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama traded victories in a coast-to-coast struggle with no end in sight.

Clinton won the Democratic race for the biggest prize, California, capitalizing on support from Hispanic voters.

McCain won the Republican race in California, dealing a blow on his closest pursuer, Mitt Romney. the former governor of Massachusetts.
