The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Fire Spreads Over Top of Sauratown Mountain, 30 People Evacuated

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) - Forestry officials estimate over 200 acres have been destroyed by the fire on Sauratown Mountain, which began over 48 hours ago.

Winds increased overnight, spreading the fire over the top of the mountain. Officials expect the wind to increase again today as a cold front approaches.

The fire spread across the top of the mountain. About 15 homes have been threatened by the fire and 30 people have been evacuated.
