Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Letter from Hooker Odom was thrown away, Easley says

CHAPEL HILL (Winston-Salem Journal) - Gov. Mike Easley says he threw away a letter from his former chief of mental-health issues that describes why she didn’t want to talk about the strained system.

In an interview with the Raleigh News & Observer, Easley stood by his assertion that his administration “vigorously opposed” a 2001 reform package, but former Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Carmen Hooker Odom publicly praised the law after it was passed.

Easley said that Hooker Odom was focused on making the law work, and that he only signed the bill because it had overwhelming support among state legislators. Hooker Odom left Easley’s administration last year and hasn’t talked publicly about the deteriorating system.
