Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Losing Some Fizz: Limits on beverages expected to cut into financial benefit for schools

(Winston-Salem Journal) - Soft drinks in local schools might be getting smaller - and schools might be making less money as a result.

In 2007, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system made $385,444 from its contract with Pepsi, which sells soft drinks, juice and other beverages in local schools.

School Attorney Drew Davis told members of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school board recently to expect that amount to decrease.
