Transportation plan nearing approval by county’s boards
(The Stokes News) - Residents of the county’s rural transportation area have been weighing in on a proposed Comprehensive Transportation Plan developed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments and the county planning department.
During the last public hearing on the plan, which does not include the King area since it is part of the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Winston-Salem, Hemal Shah, transportation engineer with DOT, explained that the plans are now required if a Rural Planning Organization wants to apply for any funding for projects.
The current proposed plan must be adopted by the county as well as Danbury and Walnut Cove’s elected boards and should provide planning to get the county through 2035, with reviews done each eight to 10 years, Shah said.
