McCrory gets GOP nod
(News 14 Carolina) - Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory has taken another step toward becoming the next governor of North Carolina, winning the GOP gubernatorial nomination.
McCrory was the last of the four Republican candidates to enter the race for governor, having won re-election as Charlotte mayor in November. In pulling out the nomination Tuesday evening, McCrory beat state Sen. Fred Smith, attorney Bill Graham and retired judge Bob Orr.
In a News 14 Carolina candidate survey, the 51-year-old candidate listed his top three priorities as attracting and keeping jobs, stopping illegal immigration and reducing crime.
“While serving the past 12 years as Charlotte’s Mayor, I’ve had a unique opportunity to see the waste and mismanagement that pervades our state capitol,” responded McCrory in the survey. “It’s time to end the culture of corruption that the current Administration has made so accepted and prevalent.”
McCrory will now go on to face Democratic governor nominee Bev Perdue in the general election.
