Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Obama taps three to lead veep search -- including Caroline Kennedy...

WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama pivoted quickly to the general election campaign for the White House on Wednesday, naming a three-person team including Caroline Kennedy to lead his search for a running mate while expressing confidence that the Democratic Party would soon unify after a bruising battle for the presidential nomination.

"I'm very confident of how we're going to be able to bring the party together," Obama said after a brief conversation with Hillary Rodham Clinton, his vanquished rival.

Campaign officials said Kennedy, who is the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, as well as former Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder and longtime Washington insider Jim Johnson have already begun compiling information on potential running mates. They disclosed no names.

From National Review Online:

So Sen. Obama, who is trying to distance himself from the Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, has named to his Vice Presidential Search Committee Eric Holder ... the top Clinton Justice Department official who was deeply enmeshed in the disgraceful pardons granted by President Clinton on his way out the door — pardons which included two Weather Underground terrorists, whose lengthy terrorism sentences were commuted. (And that is to say nothing of Holder's involvement in the infamous pardon of the international fraudster, Marc Rich.)

That's, um, an interesting choice ...

Andy — You think Eric Holder is an interesting choice for the Obama veep search. But just take a look at Jim Johnson, the former Fannie Mae chief Obama has also chosen for the job. More specifically, look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.

Yes, the Messiah and Great Uniter Dem nominee who couldn't even convince a majority of his own party to vote for him (48.2 percent to be generously specific) has appointed a team to find the right VP. Hillary, btw, while boxing in Obama with her VP comment, does indeed to seem to still be running, and frankly, in control of the show. That alone should worry Democrats. After all, if he can't control Bill Clinton's wife how, exactly, is he going to control Ahmadinejad?

That Elite of Three includes Jim Johnson who represents the Old Washington Usual Way of Doing Business. That completely contradicts Obama's promise of "Change!! Now that's just odd and surprising. Johnson chaired John Kerry's search for a VP (and we know how well that worked out) and helped the Dole campaign in the same fashion. Hey, when your work has such a spectacular history, why, uh, change?
