Edwards Admits Sexual Affair; Lied as Presidential Candidate
In ABC News Interview, Edwards Says He Cheated, but Did Not Father Child
(ABC News) - John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extra-marital affair with a novice film-maker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.
In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.
Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.

The mainstream media campaign to make little of this should begin any moment. Well, it was only sex, after all.
Unless Edwards is sterile and knows it, his claim that he isn't the father seems a little thin.
This is all an inside joke anyway. The majority of people who vote have already rejected Edwards twice. He is a creature of the media and a few Democrat Party Pollyannas. he was done long ago, the press is just keeping him around for the purposes of empty hero worship and just in case this gets really juicy.
Yeah, Edwards has always been overrated... He was a media creation. He only has one victory to his credit, and that was against Lauch Faircloth in 1998. Amazing that he came within one state (Ohio) to becoming the Vice President of the United States.
From National Review Online:
If you've got bad news, put it out late on a Friday*. Like, you know, admitting an affair when you've been insisting for weeks that the rumor was "tabloid trash."
But Edwards says he didn't love the other woman, which I guess makes it okay.
He denies being the father of her child, but hasn't taken a paternity test. Well, I guess we can give him the benefit of the doubt.
* UPDATE: A Friday. In August. Hours before the Olympics opening ceremonies. On a week when Brett Favre got traded. (Okay, that last one is huge news to me.)
We're going to hear a lot of, "this is between him and Elizabeth." Uh, as ABC notes, "His political action committee later paid her $114,000 to produce campaign website documentaries despite her lack of experience." If you gave to Edwards' PAC, you may want a refund, unless you intended to underwrite Edwards' mistress slush fund.
And one other point - he admits that he did indeed meet with the woman in question at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month, and Elizabeth didn't know he was meeting with her.
If the affair is over, and the child is not his, why is he secretly meeting with her around 2 a.m.? Just to chat?
ANOTHER UPDATE: The reaction over on Daily Kos runs the gamut, but this one left me howling. "He makes mistakes, too. Kudos to him for owning up to it."
You see, he deserves kudos for admitting the affair after about a year's worth of denials.
Well, there are two Americas. Edwards had a wife in one and a girlfriend in the other. What's the big deal?
This guy will now disappear. John Edwards is gone. But the ego of such a man? Asshole? Nope, he'll be around every corner. Watch out for a guy who'll love his wife at home then will be happy to lay the chick in LA . . .
