Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Obama: You know, tax hikes in a recession may be a bad idea

(By Ed Morrissey, Hot Air) - Barack Obama retreated on another key policy yesterday, and this one has repercussions for his entire economic and spending plan. Obama acknowledged in an interview on ABC that rescinding the Bush tax cuts in a recession — as he has described the economy — would be destructive. If so, Obama just eliminated a significant amount of the funding for his hundreds of billions in new government spending...

I guess all those new programs the tax increases were going to pay for are going to be put on hold then as well? I realize this is a "what if" scenario, but it's hard to see this as anything other than a craven attempt to reverse himself and say whatever he needs to get elected. Just like FISA, Kyl-Lieberman, the strategic petroleum reserve, the second amendment etc.
