Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: The Pie

In 1975 CBS, the once-powerful network, aired the The Jeffersons -- a sitcom about a black family who realized the American dream through husband George's dry cleaning businesses. The theme song told their story: the Jeffersons were "movin' on up to that deluxe apartment in the sky... they finally got a piece of the pie."

Well, it's a little over 30 years later now, and another African-American family is doing their best to "move on up" -- this time to that deluxe mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue -- and they want the pie too.

Last week, talking with "Joe the Plumber," Barack Obama let slip his plan to "spread the wealth"; levy high taxes on those who succeed; to fund programs and giveaways to those he deems more deserving -- echoes of what his wife, Michelle (My Belle) Obama, said at a campaign stop in April. She said: "The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more."

Every one of you -- out busting your butt everyday to have a shot at the American dream -- must understand: If the Obamas move on up to their deluxe apartment in the sky, they are finally going to have a piece of YOUR pie. They want good times for the Obamas, and "just deserts" for you.

In the words of George the Dry Cleaner: "WEEZIE! That damn tax man is here again!" They're coming for all of us if they get to the mansion.
