Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

A misprint could lead to misunderstanding

(The Stokes News) - Officials with the Stokes County school system would like to clear up a misunderstanding that could occur. The issue involves a misprint on large, green tote bags that have been distributed throughout the county. The logo on the totes reads “Stoke County” rather than “Stokes County.” The misprint doesn’t end there, however. It goes on to say, “Charting the course part,” which obviously makes no sense.

The 1,200 totes were ordered to be given to employees during Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring of 2009. When Central Services discovered the printing error, they notified the company which suggested that the incorrectly printed bags be donated to local charities. The school system complied with this request and will soon receive corrected totes from the company, but they want to notify the public of the mistake in case Stokes County residents see the bags out in public.
