Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Happy?

From Rush Limbaugh: America's new Education Secretary, Arne Duncan, finds himself at war with fellow Democrats who are intent on forcing minority kids to attend bad schools. But it's not really a philosophical disagreement; this is a P.R. dustup.

As part of their latest Porkulus spending bill, Democrats slipped in a provision killing off a school voucher program that allowed minority kids to attend really good schools in DC. This created a P.R. problem for the Obama Administration because some of the kids who'd be affected are classmates of Obama's daughters at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School.

Oops. In an AP interview, Arne Duncan now says it doesn't "make sense to take kids out of a school where they're happy and safe and satisfied and learning... those kids need to stay in their school." Mr. Duncan also claims that Washington, DC is a "special case" when it comes to school vouchers. Duncan, like most self-professed kind-hearted Democrats, opposes vouchers.

Attention, African-American and Hispanic parents living outside Washington, DC: Your kids' education is expendable! Your children don't have the right to be happy, safe, satisfied, and learning. They are riffraff who should be segregated into failing public schools! So the Democrats you vote for to be happy, safe, and satisfied legislators can continue telling you they're fighting for you -- while they continue to ruin your kids' chances. The only ones not happy... are those of us who want everyone in America to succeed. Why can't that be the case with Democrats?
