Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Rush Limbaugh's Morning Update: Warfare

From Rush Limbaugh: Well, friends, a fresh battle report has arrived. There are heavy casualties in Maryland. Democrats, fighting in the war on prosperity, have shot themselves in the foot... and other parts of their anatomy. Maryland's budget came up short last year, so the elected tax-happy vampires came up with another one of their tax-the-rich schemes.

This one took the form of a so-called "millionaire tax bracket," raising the state's top marginal income tax rate to 6.25 percent. Governor Martin O'Malley, who the Wall Street Journal calls "a dedicated class warrior," predicted that the richest citizens were, "willing and able to pay their fair share." The local Drive-By-Media rag, the Baltimore Sun, postulated that the rich would "grin and bear it."

Well, the sun isn't shining, and the crystal ball needs some repair. In less that one year, one third of Maryland's millionaires have vanished; they're no longer on the tax roll. In 2008, 3,000 people declared million-dollar incomes -- now that number stands at 2,000. Instead of clearing the $106 million in additional tax revenues that Democrats projected, millionaires ended up paying 100 million fewer dollars.

Liberals refuse to understand: high-income earners can move, and many of them have second homes in tax-friendly states. These tax-and-spend liberals just don't get it -- enough is enough! Producers and achievers have had enough.

At least these Democrats have one thing right: it is fitting that their party mascot is a jackass. Don't you think?
