The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Better Hold It: Virginia Closes 18 Highway Rest Stops

(WGHP) - The Virginia Department of Transportation closed 18 rest areas overnight to help cut reduce costs for the state's transportation department.

Crews will work throughout the day on Tuesday to change the last of signs leading into the facilities, according to a spokesperson for the state department.

All 18 rest stops will be completely shut down by 9 a.m. Tuesday.
