Loan gets green light: City will pursue ballpark money

(By Richard Craver & Wesley Young, Winston-Salem Journal) - With a stamp of approval fresh from the N.C. Local Government Commission, the Winston-Salem City Council voted unanimously last night to borrow $12.7 million from First Tennessee Bank as part of a deal to finish construction of a baseball stadium downtown.

The council also approved the list of those who will serve on an 11-member committee to review construction of the stadium and its operations thereafter.

"I hope by the end of August we will see some action," Mayor Allen Joines said before the start of the meeting, referring to construction that has been stalled for almost six months.
