Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Perdue expected to sign off on state budget of $19 billion

GOP presses governor for veto, saying it breaks promises

RALEIGH (By James Romoser, Winston-Salem Journal) - The General Assembly gave final approval yesterday to a $19 billion state budget for 2009-10.

The N.C. House voted 65-52 in favor of the budget package, and the N.C. Senate approved it in a 27-18 vote. Both votes were along party lines, with Democrats supporting the budget and Republicans opposing it.

The budget package now goes to Gov. Bev Perdue, who said she will sign it into law, most likely today.

That didn't stop Republican legislators from publicly calling on Perdue to veto it.
