The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Dell to Close Winston-Salem Plant Early Next Year

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) - Dell will close its desktop computer manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem early next year, the company announced in a news release Wednesday.

Approximately 905 employees will be affected by the closure, with about 600 to be released next month, the company said. The closure is expected to be completed in January 2010.

Affected employees will receive severance packages and assistance finding work.

The company said the closure was part of its efforts to "simplify operations and improve efficiency."
