Historic Green Park Inn is sold, will be reopened

It opened in 1891, fell victim to poor economy in '09

BLOWING ROCK (By Monte Mitchell, Winston-Salem Journal) - After several failed attempts since last summer, the Green Park Inn sold at auction yesterday to a New England businessman for $935,000.

Gene Raice, of Garden City, N.Y., was the sole bidder during yesterday's auction and bid $800,000. But immediately after the auction closed he agreed to come up to the seller's reserve auction price of $850,000, plus a 10 percent premium.

Raice said he intends to have workers on the property as soon as the deal closes, and hopes to reopen the inn in three to four months.
