Dan River outfitter likes showing off nature, working where customers come in happy

David Hoskins, owner of the Dan River Company near Danbury, says there’s a lot of wildlife to see from one of his canoes.

(By Melissa Hall, Winston-Salem Journal) - David Hoskins has been paddling rivers since he was a kid.

While living in Seattle, he ran a scuba shop. He's also worked on a fishing boat in Alaska.

He came to North Carolina in 1996 to help his mother start Southwyck Farm Bed and Breakfast, and decided to stay.

In 2003, he opened his own business, the Dan River Company, which rents canoes and kayaks and offers shuttle services to places along the Dan River for people to paddle back to the center. The company is on Flinchum Road off of N.C. 8 near Danbury.
