No bologna sandwiches yet at Priddy’s

(By Leslie Bray Evans, The Stokes News) - Priddy’s General Store is set to begin serving bologna sandwiches again—just as soon as Governor Bev Perdue signs House Bill 1766 into law. She has until mid-August to do so.

Priddy’s, which had served up such sandwiches since 1929, was forced by health regulations to cease and desist sandwich-making in the summer of 2009. The laws that affect the operation pertain to the regulation of food and lodging establishments in North Carolina and were enacted in 1941.

After UNC-TV aired a PBS special in July 2009 that highlighted the quaintness of Priddy’s serving the old-fashioned sandwiches, trouble began brewing for the historic store.
