Faulty Website Could Cost Guilford Co. $47,000
GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Taxpayers in Guilford County have spent $47,000 on a website so flawed it may never debut online, according to the Greensboro News & Record.
County commissioners told the paper the website is so flawed they are not sure if it can be salvaged. Now, some county officials are saying the company that built the website, XMG Online, got the job because of its CEO's connection to Chairman Melvin "Skip" Alston, a charge that Alston denies.
The company originally quoted the county $65,000 for the work, according to the report. However, XMG was 200 days over its deadline last October and the company agreed to take the $47,000 it had been paid and turn over the website code. However, as weeks passed, county officials said they realized the project may never be completed.
