Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Yadkin County sheriff nowhere to be found Monday

YADKINVILLE (By Monte Mitchell, Winston-Salem Journal) - Yadkin County Sheriff Mike Cain cleaned out his office over the weekend, and people who work with him didn’t seem to know where he was Monday.

The Yadkin County grand jury met Monday, but it was unclear if it heard anything related to an ongoing State Bureau of Investigation probe of the sheriff’s office.

Major Danny Widener said he didn’t know where the sheriff was Monday, but that Cain remains in office.

"There has been no formal resignation," Widener said. "He’s still the sheriff."
