High Point Officer Suspended After Citizen Complaint

HIGH POINT, NC (WGHP) — A High Point police officer has been demoted and suspended without pay after a citizen complained about his conduct.

Officer Ben Sherrill has been suspended for three weeks, which combined with the demotion will cost him roughly $8,000 in pay, city manager Strib Boynton said.

Bridgette Pettiford filed a complaint with police that said Sherrill falsely accused her of harboring a fugitive, threatened to arrest her, and refused to investigate a break-in, Lt. Tim Ellenberger said.
