Sheriff buys motorcycle that cost him his job
YADKINVILLE (By Monte Mitchell, Winston-Salem Journal) - Former Yadkin County Sheriff Mike Cain is back on the Harley-Davidson motorcycle that led to the charges that cost him his job.
Cain, who had been sheriff since 1998, resigned Jan. 26, just minutes before pleading guilty to nine misdemeanor charges related to using the department-leased motorcycle and having a private slush fund.
A post on Cain's Facebook page Friday night thanked "the many many people who have offered there prayers and support to me and Betty here and by other ways. You all have brought a tear to my eye and joy to my heart." Betty is his wife.
He said he hopes to set up a website "that will have every piece of the states evidence against me, so you can judge for your self if you think I have done wrong! I will also give you the exact details of what I was being told during all this."
At the end of the post, he said that he had bought the motorcycle that day, and added: "So as they say at Harley Davidson 'Screw it lets ride' Love you all. RETIRED sheriff."
