The First Ever Full Face Transplant In America Is Completed Successfully

(By Jon Bershad, Mediaite) - And science marches forward. In Boston last week, surgeons from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital performed the first full face transplant in America. It took 15 hours and a team that included “more than 30 surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and residents,” but the procedure was completed with zero complications and the patient, Dallas Wiens, is now resting.

Wiens, 25, was a day laborer who was working on a cherry picker that hit a live wire. He was blinded and lost his entire face except for one portion of his chin.
