Soccer Player Faces Sanctions for Kicking Owl

(By Chuck Schilken, Los Angeles Times) - Panama defender Luis Moreno is facing sanctions for kicking an injured owl that was on the field during a soccer match Sunday.

The owl is a mascot for Panama's opponent, the Atletico Junior team. It had landed on the field and had already been hit by the ball during play when Moreno kicked it about 3 feet.

Fans of the Atletico Junior team shouted, "Murderer, murderer," after the incident. The owl suffered a minor fracture to its right leg and is expected to recover.
