School Superintendent leaving Stokes County -- Dr. Stewart Hobbs accepts position in Yadkin County

(By Leslie Bray, The Stokes News) - Dr. L. Stewart Hobbs Jr. will be leaving his position of superintendent of Stokes County Schools when the school year ends in June. He announced to his staff on Wednesday, Mar. 30, that he has accepted the position of superintendent of Yadkin County Schools for the 2011-12 school year.

According to a Stokes County Board of Education member, Yadkin offered Dr. Hobbs a substantial pay raise which will make a large difference in his retirement pay. Dr. Hobbs will be eligible for retirement in a couple of years.

The local school board voted to increase Dr. Hobbs’ salary late last summer, but public outcry arose. The superintendent refused the resultant raise.

Board of Education Chair Mike Rogers says that since the school system is in good shape at this time, the Board will not rush but will begin to consider a replacement for Dr. Hobbs.
