The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Charles Krauthammer Blames Santorum’s ‘Self-Inflicted’ Defeat On ‘Kennedy, College And Contraception’

(By James Crugnale, Mediaite) - In the immediate aftermath of Rick Santorum‘s election night defeat in both Arizona and Michigan, Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer said the candidate, for the most part, had no one to blame but himself, calling Santorum’s failure “self-inflicted.”

“I think Santorum really had his shot here, he got the slingshot coming out of that three-win…and he came really close, which would have been a tremendous upset and victory, but he fell short. And like the others, I think it was mostly self-inflicted.”
