Stokes Co. Commissioners learn costs of proposed King Police takeover

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) - Stokes County Commissioners now have a rough idea of how much it would cost to have deputies take over law enforcement duties from the King Police Department.

County Manger Rick Morris presented commissioners with the proposal on Monday. The proposal had been worked on by both Morris and Sheriff Mike Marshall.

It would cost the county $1.6 million to take over King’s law enforcement duties for the first year, according to the proposal. The King Police Department’s annual budget is $1.5 million.

Commissioners decided to table the issue at Monday’s meeting so they could discuss it more.

King City Council will hold a public hearing on the issue at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the King Elementary School gymnasium.
