Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: "George Bush's little pre-fab war"

Steve responds to yours truly:

Trouble is, Andy, that taking Saddam out hasn't netted us a whole heck of a lot in the war on terror. Al Qaeda has managed to hold us at bay in Iraq while mounting attacks in both Spain and England. Some are fond of pointing out that Al Qaeda hasn't been able to mount an attack on us since 9/11, but that is a weak logical point. Al Qaeda's attacks on us have always been sporadic at best and our action in Afghanistan had more to do with setting them back than anything else.

My point is, if we were convinced Saddam Hussein was a problem, of course, take him out. However, there was no need to go in and occupy the country, getting us bogged down in a guerrilla war. If we weren't so blasted PC about our military actions, we could have taken him out without ever putting a single American troop in harm's way.
