Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Localities Get Tough on Tax Bills: New program deducts delinquent bills from state tax refunds

John Turpin, chairman of the Stokes County Board of Commissioners, opines:

Wren (Carmichael, Stokes County Tax Administrator) started this about a year ago here in Stokes. When you garnish the wages they start calling and pay up. Although, I still don't blame people for not wanting to pay their taxes when it's used inefficiently.
