Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: In response to the Lone Ranger

Lone Ranger said: "No matter how broadly you define it, socialism has never worked anywhere it has been tried. The European middle class will never live as good a life as our middle class. Socialism spreads misery equally. Communism imposes misery on everyone."

Behethland said: "Again, what you are saying is purely opinion. What's misery to one is living the good life to another. I tend to follow the "greater good" rather than the "every man for himself " mantra. My point is simply that our nation should learn from those aspects of a socialized government that work--ie: socialized medicine."

How can it be opinion? He said it has never worked anywhere it has been tried. That is a verifiable fact. As for socialized medicine working, would that be more like Canada where they flood over the border in November and fill up clinics in Vermont and New York because the socialized medicine system there has run out of money and shut down for the year? Or would that be more like England, where you might have to wait five years for a heart bypass, and if the ol' ticker gives out before then, oh well? Or would it be more like Sweden where there is a three year waiting list to see an ENT for an allergy test? ... You believe that socialism is some workable form of democracy, separate and apart from totalitarianism, and to that, an anonymous observer responds:

"Socialism is merely a transitional state between Capitalism and the "Dictatorship of the Proletariat." All good little Marxists are aware of this. None of them will speak directly about it in mixed company, though."

And you believe Jesus was a socialist, and to that, the observer responds:

"She's a "Sojourner." A marxist wolf in Christian sheep's clothing, by design. Google it."

And you believe that you will still be part of the elite after the revolution, and to that, the observer responds:

"More likely, she would be deemed reprobate, and "frog marched" off to face the firing squad, even before you or me. The Dictatorship of the Proletariat has not been so kind to gays or Jewish people in the past, either. It's a mystery to me, why people cannot see this, and can only envision themselves as part of some ruling class. Nonsense."
