Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Loving Our Neighbors

Who's coming to your door with a gun and demanding money for the poor?

The United States Government, among others.

My party supports social programs; your party does not.

I have no party. I am unaffiliated with any political party.

If you don't like the association, then maybe it is time your party changed its attitude and tried to do more for the common man and the poor than for the wealthiest 5%.

What association? And if you're referring to the Republicans, why do you believe everything Michael Moore and Hillary Clinton tell you? That "wealthiest 5%" crap is pure BS. It is class warfare promulgated by your party in order to keep itself in power. It sounds cute, but it is a lie. Shame on you for believing it.

I believe it is important to provide government-sponsored support systems to those in need.

We have already established what you believe. What we haven't established is why you think you have the right to force that belief on the rest of us.

And let's face it; everyone DOESN'T give to charity or their church or missions.

Indeed. But once again, what gives you the right to force people to give? You've already tried using guilt and Jesus. I have eliminated both those arguments. Answer the question. What gives you the right to force me to be charitable? Don't tell me what you believe again. I already know that and it is completely unimportant to the question. I believe you don't have the right to force me to be charitable. So by what criteria does your belief supersede mine?

Maybe if we all gave a little something there would be no need for social programs, but that is not feasible.

Why not? It was certainly feasible before Karl Marx came along. I don't think I'll ever understand the collectivist mind.

Call me a socialist. That is exactly what I am and I'm proud of it!

That's very easy for you to write, but you have no idea what you're saying. Have you ever been to a socialist country? I have. From what you write, seeing human misery in the faces of a few tears at your heart-strings. Now imagine that look of misery and add in a look of utter despair on the faces of everyone you meet. You were born into privilege. You have had an easy life. It's easy for you to glibly espouse the abstract concepts of Marxism because you think they don't threaten to actually touch you in any way. You're wrong. You and every other liberal who flirts with socialism.

Socialism cannot exist outside totalitarianism. If you're going to fool around with this stuff, you need to understand what kind of toy you're playing with. Have you read The Communist Manifesto or any of the writings of V. I. Lenin? If not, you need to before you spout any more of this nonsense. You nice, privileged, white liberals seem to think that when the socialist revolution happens, you will be able to remain as part of the privileged class. You're wrong. You and everyone like you will become part of the proletariat. Fodder for the Marxist grist mill. The government will tell you where and when you must work, where you will live, who you will live with, what you can buy, when you can buy it, and from who you can buy it. The government won't let you believe in Jesus. Christianity and socialism are mutually exclusive. All religion must be wiped out for the good of society and the state. The government won't let you say what you believe on The Bully Pulpit. There won't be any discussion forums or blogs and the government will tell you what you can say and when you can say it and to whom you can say it.

Socialism is like a virus, and just as deadly. Maybe some of you don't care or are enraptured with this cute idea, but your games will end up killing the rest of us.
