Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Re: An Open Letter to Bush Haters

In an attempt to be bombastic and humorous, this dude fails miserably. 'The Hero of Monicagate'? 'The Dragon Lady' (referring to Hillary Clinton)? Not funny.

Those names are positively complimentary compared to some of the poisonous vitriol I've heard and seen uttered by the left about George Bush. You'd be amazed at how many of those folks think they're being clever and witty when they refer to him as the "Shrub" or the "Smirking Chimp".

All in all, I'd have to agree that the American political dialog has seen better days.
