Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Message to Senator Burr

Richard,

I strongly believe the President has made a mistake in nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court. I believe he has missed an opportunity to change the stance of the court from one of liberal activism to interpretation according to original intent. Ms. Miers' record, what little there is, cannot possibly lead one to logically conclude that she will be either an originalist or a strong juror. I urge you to use whatever means are at your disposal to help convince the President to withdraw this nomination in favor of a person in the mould of Scalia and Thomas, as he promised his supporters he would.

Thanks for listening.
