Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Republican Jackals

...but why should Republicans not bail out on him?

I know this is a foreign concept these days, but how about if they waited until he was actually convicted of something? It has been demonstrated that Ronnie Earl is nothing but a partisan hack, prone to Republican witch-hunts. The only thing anyone has on DeLay is that he knew Jack Abramoff. So what? So did two-thirds of the rest of the Congress, including its most corrupt member, Harry Reid. Harry Reid has a trail of corruption behind him that makes DeLay look like a choir boy. Why don't the Democrats bail out on him? I'll tell you why: the mainstream media. They choose to turn a blind eye to Reid's obvious corruption, but they interrupt regular programming every time someone utters a word about DeLay. And the Republicans are such a bunch of cringing pansies, they fold after the first time Oprah mentions DeLay and just wait around for whichever parts of the corpse the Democrats choose to leave them. Most of the time, the Democrats have no need to abandon their problem children because the media will make sure they get a pass.

I don't like DeLay because he's a lying neo-con. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he does get nailed for something sleazy, but Ann Coulter made a good point. Republicans can hardly complain when they suddenly find themselves all alone amid a pack of ravenous, Democrat wolves. It has become their standard operating mode to either eat their own or hand them over to be eaten.
