Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Brunstetter tops field for Horton Senate seat

He says he wants party to unite after heated race

Pete Brunstetter won his race for the 31st N.C. Senate District seat yesterday, bringing an end to a nasty campaign in which he outspent and out-advertised his two opponents.

At midnight last night, with 93 percent of the district's precincts reporting, Brunstetter had 3,534 votes in the Republican primary. Nathan Tabor had 2,580, and Gloria Whisenhunt had 1,884.
