Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Bush's War Theater

From Dubya's press conference earlier today at the White House:

"See, Iraq is a part of the global war on terror. It's not 'the' global war on terror, it's a theater in the global war on terror."

Iraq is "a theater," like Broadway with a purpose, I guess.

Let's figuratively run with this for a minute: I guess that makes Dubya an executive producer and a leading man, members of the US military hardworking extras, stagehands, and production crew, the rest of the world the audience, and the American people the show's investors. So when do we start seeing returns from this production? This show's been running for years now with more bills to pay and no payday in sight.
