Plunge Ahead: Take a hike to adventure at Hanging Rock's falls

Winston-Salem Journal

The Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains are home to North Carolina's best-known and most spectacular waterfalls. Linville Falls, Dry Falls, Hickory Nut Falls and Looking Glass Falls - to name a few - are all worth the drive. A visit requires the investment of at least a day, and some of the falls involve a strenuous hike.

But the falls at Hanging Rock State Park are only a 45-minute drive from Winston-Salem, require short and relatively easy hikes, and can all be visited in a single afternoon.
