Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Gay Old Pedophiles

Any genuine conservative would have to be blind, deaf and cognitively challenged to continue to support the Republican Party. The Foley scandal is simply one more proof that the Gay Old Pedophiles cannot be reformed, they can only be abandoned.

Interesting thought. However, if this idea actually caught on, the Democratic Party could only benefit, and any politically power-hungry 'moral leaders' (whose lips are permanently attached to Republican asses) would be devastated: their perceived connection with political power would be severed. Again, I appreciate Vox's idealism, but the fact is that, to most political groupies and those interested in a political career, the lure of power is stronger than the boundaries of moral conviction.

Maybe the GOP should just drop all pretenses of being the party of ‘the moral majority.’ That way, those poor folks who can’t seem to figure it out for themselves can finally be freed of political ‘morality marketing.’ Some may leave the ‘big tent’ while others decide to not sweat the small stuff as long as their property taxes stay low. Who knows how many would do what. But of course, these GOP pretenses of traditional moral and religious standards enable the party to win elections, so don't expect anything to change any time soon.
