Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: US bugged Diana's phone on night of death crash

I have to agree with 'Causal' in the comments on this post, Andy — it seems like we're talking about apples and oranges here. In this case, Bush's phone tapping involving Americans and their private communications — the controversy of NSA warrantless surveillance — is not the same as this Princess Di thing.
