Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: DEMS BURN A 'KIDLESS' RICE

As much as I hate the idea of defending Rice, who I have about as much use for as I do Bush, this is the same stupid argument we've heard on a local level that someone who has no children in a school system shouldn't run for the School Board or someone who doesn't live in a particular district shouldn't run for a legislative post.

If we would get over the silly idea that our elected representatives need to have some kind of empathy for us or to somehow be our friends, our system would certainly be improved. This ridiculous notion, of course, is a direct result of women's suffrage, but that's a topic for another thread.
