Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

RE: Failure is not an option...

Andy: I didn't realize one must be married and have kids to serve in government.

Never said such a thing.

Seriously, what does Rice's lack of a husband and child have anything to do with the Iraq situation???

Nothing... other than that she has no worries that a child or spouse of her own could die fighting in a war that the majority of Americans realize is a big mistake.

Like I said before, the source story is simply about politics — politics like the successful '90s Republican slogan 'Family Values' is politics... "Only those in traditional families would know real values..." That sort of thing. Of course it's crap, but crap is what American politics is largely comprised of.

BTW, how viciously do you think that a single and childless Democratic politician would be attacked by Republican politicians in a comparable situation? Worse, maybe?
