Bully Pulpit

The term "bully pulpit" stems from President Theodore Roosevelt's reference to the White House as a "bully pulpit," meaning a terrific platform from which to persuasively advocate an agenda. Roosevelt often used the word "bully" as an adjective meaning superb/wonderful. The Bully Pulpit features news, reasoned discourse, opinion and some humor.

Carter says comments were ‘careless’

(MSNBC) - Former President Jimmy Carter on Monday said his comments over the weekend about the Bush administration were “careless.”

Carter was quoted Saturday as saying “I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history.”

Carter was honest with how he felt, and shouldn't have to backpedal. He wasn't "careless" - he's frustrated with the current administration and has every reason to feel that way. We've cut off diplomatic relations with much of the world, will have racked up 5 trillion dollars in debt by the time Bush leaves office, and have mired this country in an avoidable and unwinnable war. Meanwhile, our economy increasingly erodes as the trade balance increases, widespread jobs continue to leave this country, the housing market collapses, and the oil industry continues to take advantage, crippling all commerce and eroding our paychecks by being allowed to further ramp up oil prices without any sort of governmental regulation. Carter may not have been the most successful president, but at least you felt he was honest and cared, rather than the current administration which seems only to care about deception and abject greed.
