Mechanical failure, fire ruled out in crash
Witnesses said plane flew erratically after takeoff
MOUNT AIRY (Winston-Salem Journal) - Investigators have ruled out mechanical failures and fire as causes of the plane crash that killed six men two weeks ago, according to a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board.
On Feb. 1, a twin-engine King Air C90A crashed in a residential area about a half-mile from the Mount Airy/Surry County Airport.
The plane was loaded with guns and hunting supplies for a trip that six men, including the pilot, had planned to Primland, a hunting and golf resort about 25 miles away in Patrick County, Va.
