Three file for two county board seats
(The Stokes News) - Filing opened Monday for five elected positions that represent Stokes County, and six people have filed for those available seats.
As they promised before the filing period opened, three incumbents filed to run for re-election on the first day of the filing period. Republican Kathy Young of Danbury filed for Register of Deeds, Republican Bryan Holloway of King will run for State House 91st District, and Republican Don East of Pilot Mountain will vie for State Senate 30th District, which covers Stokes County and a portion of Surry County.
In the race for two available county commissioner seats, three newcomers filed as candidates for those seats. On Monday, Republican candidate Ronda Jones of Danbury filed, and, on Tuesday, Democratic candidates Zollie Smith of King and Richard Newsome of King both filed their intent to run for office.
Incumbent Republicans Leon Inman and Jimmy Walker have not yet filed for re-election to the county board of commissioners, but both announced their intent to run prior to the filing period opening.
The filing period will remain open until noon on Feb. 29. Anyone interested in being a candidate should visit the Stokes County Board of Elections.
